Adoption Through Foster Care
Every year, more than 100,000 children in foster care are available for adoption. Through no fault of their own, these children enter foster care as a result of abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
19% of adoption-eligible children in foster care spend five years or more waiting for a family. The average child waits for an adoptive family for more than two years. The average age of children waiting for an adoptive family is six. Approximately 52,000 children will be adopted from foster care this year. 29,000 will continue to wait for placement until they reach the age of 18 without ever finding a forever family.
